Cockscomb hat is a kind of head wear for the unmarried women of Nipu(Samei people, one branch of Yi). It is called “Cockscomb hat”, or “Cock hat”, because of the shape. Some stiff cloth is cut into this shape, and then all types of flowers are embroidered on the surface. Wearing it is like a crowing cock. Cockscomb is a symbol of happiness for Samei girls; every one of them should have at least one cockscomb hat. Wearing a cockscomb hat represents being accompanied with a Cock,  which symbolizes a long lasting brilliance and well-being.
